Subject: Art project

Hello Gideon,

I got your letter about your art project.

It's really creative of you to be offering 100 pounds to randomers just to see what they do with it!

I could spend 100 pounds on anything really, but there's something specific I always wanted but never got around to it because of time and expenses.

I fancy myself a bit of an artist too. I'm on Deviantart if you wanna see what I've been up to in terms of drawing: http://00maria00.deviantart.com/

It's always been me and my tablet, I've watched youtube tutorials on digital drawing, I've downloaded a million pictures to use as references.

However I've never ever done a proper traditional painting... notebook doodles don't count. x)

I know paint and canvas costs a lot and since this would be my first try, I feel like I would just waste the materials I bought by drawing something ugly.

Since opportunity presented itself though, I'd want to give this a try. If you give me 100 pounds, I'll make the best painting I'm capable of!

Thanks for the letter!

Maria

First Meeting

We planned to meet in Café Nero next to Piccadilly Gardens tram stop in Manchester city centre at 6.30pm, but ended up in different Café Neros on either side of Piccadilly Gardens.

When we eventually found each other, the café was closing, so we sat on a bench. I apologised for my mistake, and Maria was very sweet about it.

She told me about her plans for the painting and why the timing of the letter was important to her.

A stop on the way

“After walking through darkness and uncertainty, I have stopped and made camp in this really nice spot, lit by the fire. I have left the darkness and the losses behind me, they don’t matter anymore. Although this won’t be my home forever and I’m likely to end up somewhere else, I do like this resting spot and I’ll enjoy its warmth and safety while I’m here.

There is a small wooden ladder that helped me climb to the camp. There is another one that will let me go even further once I’m ready to move. I’m not sure where it leads, but it looks brighter than what I left behind.”
