In August 2017, I walked one hundred and forty–two streets, posting one thousand letters around the borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester.
The letter invited households to respond by explaining how they would use the sum of £100, and that the money could be used for anything at all. Ten households would then have their proposals funded as part of the project.
I received forty–five responses.
During September 2017, I selected eleven proposals, including one from the Stockport pilot. At my first meeting with each participant, I gave them their £100 enclosed in an envelope.
There was no set framework for how the selected proposals should develop, nor were there any expectations regarding the participants' level of involvement. The project unfolded through the relationships, conversations and circumstances that emerged along the way.
