 Hi Gideon I received your letter about the art project.

 I am a avid fly fisherman, I fish everything from the rugged coast of Northumberland to the urban rivers of Manchester and surrounding areas.

Fly fishing it's self if quite and artistic form of fishing and could make for a great art project.

Pictures of the scenery, locations the act of fishing and the fish could all make great art.

I am purely catch and release and fish welfare is paramount. I have been involved in the conservation side also......tagging and so on.

I would spend the £100 on fishing equipment (not that it would buy a lot) but I really think this could make a good project for you and would more so be interested in the fact that you are basing a project on something I am very passionate about and would love to see the artwork you produced based on it.

Hi Gideon

I was upstairs painting my bedroom when you posted this through. Both my children aged 22 and 25 have recently left home and taken their beds with them!

I would love the £100 to buy a bed so that they have somewhere to sleep when they come and visit.

I know it's not the most exciting idea but it would make a great surprise for my kids 😀

Dear Gideon,

 I’ve been sitting on your letter since receiving it (not literally).  it was fun to receive, like when you’re a kid and you get actual post like birthday cards or letters from faraway friends. I’ve kept and just kept thinking i must think of something interesting to do with this money.  Well I didn’t, it seems i got too grown up so my inclination was to put it towards my very expensive car insurance but then I always think if you’re gifted money or win it you should spend it on something you enjoy because it’s money you never had in the first place that was never attributed to something you must pay for.  So in short I’m sure some would chip in towards my insurance but the majority would go to sprucing up an old worn tattoo I have. I got it years ago at affleck’s palace, my own design that incorporates my family zodiacs.  It looks tired and dull and needs something to make it look different and fresh again.

So there you go. Best of luck with your project, I hope it goes well.

With the greatest respect, we cannot accept the offer of £100 when there are many other families, children or charities in this world that would appreciate this money more than us. Although we are not rich nor are we poor, it doesn't feel right to accept the money  for the said reasons.

 If you still chose us due to our response, we would like to donate the money to a charity of your choosing or to put back into your art project.

Hello Gideon, 

I received your letter recently, and I'm quite interested in your project. I was slightly skeptical at first, a letter promising money usually has a more nefarious intention. But I did some research, looking at your past work and reading an article about you and your work on Intern, and that skepticism has gone.

I would spend the money on nutrition for fitness. I am going to be moving out for the first time within the next 2 weeks, to an apartment complex with an on-site gym. Myself and two friends have committed to somewhat of a pact to keep each other motivated and improve our lifestyles. Two of us have suffered from severe bouts of depression, and we know how much exercise helps - in multiple ways: a better self image, more energy, and you feel happier in general. I've tried before, but it's such a difficult thing to start doing and keep at. Right now I'm more motivated then I ever have been, and 3 people helping and encouraging each other will be a great motivation booster. 

My work is more sedentary, being a software engineer for the BBC.  I know I need to have physical activity in my personal life as it counters the health issues I am at risk to at the workplace. Both in terms of physical and mental well-being, this could help change me for the better.

Hi Gideon

I am responding to your letter re: how I would use £100.

I had always yearned for a piano.

Then out of the blue I was forwarded an email by a colleague from a teacher who was trying to find a home for her grandmother's piano.

I then asked on Facebook if anyone could deliver it. It was delivered for free.

If I was given the £100, it would mean that the piano could be tuned as it can't be used as it is.

On reflection, it is like the piano was heaven sent, each part of the process being a gift.

Hi Gideon

I had your letter through the door and after some brief, mild scepticism (and a look at your web page) I've had a little think.

As a homeowner I'm trying to get my house renovated to a standard where I can rent it out. I'm in a long distance relationship with a german girl but set against a Brexit background I'm looking at skipping off to live over there. The plan is to have the house rented out as my property in case things don't work out.

So, I'm racing to get things done on the house but it costs. Month by month I get a little more done. I think £100 would sort out the kitchen lighting when I get a new ceiling in.

Hello after receiving your letter I am interested in helping & working with you.

I am considering having my beautiful trees shortened in my back yard.  I do not want to have them chopped down but just shortened cos they block the sunlight into my kitchen/ dining room. I had them out there as I thought they would look nice in a big garden & even didn't mind cleaning after em in the autumn 🍂 the problem is the sunlight.

I "NEED" sunlight so i'm thinking of having them cut down & shaped.

I would use your money towards sorting this out. If u think this is a viable idea.

I would like to apply for your £100 donation, to give to the Community Garden at the end of my road.

It has only recently been organised, some tree's came down to plant underneath, and there are plans to build the children on our road a tree house.

I would like to give the £100 should I be successful, to the organiser Gareth who lives at number 7 as he has done the majority of the work on this area.

Thanks for your very interesting letter, we let the children decide what we would spend the money on and my son says he'd love a new bike, he has grown out of his old one and currently looks like a magician we saw in a show on holiday riding a tiny bike with his knees up to his ears! If my son gets a new bike we can then pass the old one down to our daughter and teach her to ride without stabilisers, it'll be like Father Christmas has come early!

We guess you must have many e mails to read through, but thanks for posting the letter through our door and we would be very interested in seeing your finished project whether you choose us or not.

You dropped a note through my door at Circle Court and it caught my attention. For two reasons: One the money and two the idea. This may be opportune for both of us. I am a PR man just about to start a new agency. 

My background is in the media: papers, TV etc. and this may make a decent story depending on what comes out of it.

 The money would help as I have been existing on fumes since losing a lot of money on a failed business venture and I am creating new stationery and seeking clients currently.

You never know whatever art you create may double as a logo and then we have a delightfully symbiotic relationship.

I am no stranger to the art world. In fact I am putting together an exhibition for a Chorlton-based artist called Nigel Mottram.

I would spend the £100 on setting up a web-site and creating a business.

I wrote this on an old envelope and so I'd call it 'If Your Circumstances Have Changed'.

With a hundred pounds I'd write a hundred stories in a hundred days.  The writings would be things from journal entries to full blown articles, from short stories to 'that' novel. Some good; others pretty awful: original, overused, purloined, recycled, reclaimed. Fictional and Nonfiction. Anonymous and authored. Absent and actioned.  Some may skirt the controversial and others will form a part of the establishment.

Some might turn into ideas to action, others will scatter the internet and others still will seed into projects and people of their own volition. Some will be tiny - others will be epic.  All will self germinate and kick start my Moe's Millions Project.  Big dreams and gentle steps.

Subject: £100 for 10 project

Hey Gideon,

Thanks for your letter, we were both quite intrigued by your project. We would also like £100 for free,who wouldn't.

Your offer came to us with quite impeccable timing. For the last few months, we've been researching and dreaming and thinking of a specific purchase. We even got our landlord to agree it's OK by him, so all good there. What we'd really like to do with the money, is spend it on some new members of our family. We want to buy two cats.

I've always been strictly dog, but my missis is totally cat and has won me over by texting me about 50 cute pictures of cats a day for over two years now. Nobody is that strong minded, they are quite cute, although I do quite like their aloofness. Peculiar creatures.

The plan is to get two kittens, hopefully related, from a rescue centre. The fee for two cats fully neutered, injected and flea free just happens to be £100. We've been browsing the RSPCA sites around town and there are a few beauties around. I quite like ones that look wild and quirky. Not sure if I'd be down with a black cat, we'll see.

We aim to get them towards the end of September, depending what's available.

The only successful name that's been bandied around so far is Boggles. In view of your project my missis suggested Pablo Picatso, because you're an artist and she thinks shes funny. Maybe we can sell you naming rights for one of our cats if you'd prefer that, depends what you go for.

Anyway, that's our idea, let us know what you think, and if this project is on show anywhere, send us the invite! We'd love to see what comes of it.

Hi Gideon, I was surprised to receive your letter, not something that happens everyday!

If this is genuine then I would spend the money on a night away for my partners birthday.  We do not live together and as she has children as do I then getting time away is precious. This year is especially problematic as 2 of my son's have a birthday within 2 days of hers. They are 21 and 13! So I didn't think we would be able to do anything . She is a wonderful woman who told me that the children come first and to forget her birthday but I wouldn't want to do this.

If you picked my husband and I we would put the money towards adopting a rescue dog from a shelter! I think the best ways to spend windfalls is to buy something that's gives yourself, others or animals happiness, joy or love and this actually fills all three of those criteria!!!
