Dear Gideon,
We have received your letter about your art project. Our service works with children and Young People who have fled domestic abuse with their mothers and are often confused and traumatised by the transition required to adapt to living in a refuge, in addition many of the Children and Young People have witnessed domestic abuse. Consequently it is essential that our children and young people have happy and positive experiences while they are supported during this period of their life.
Therefore, over the school holidays we organise play sessions and outings for the children and young people. In addition, we are hoping to have a ‘Big Day Out’ whereby all our children and young people can attend a family focused fun day. We would like to take the children and young people to the seaside either at Southport or Blackpool.
The children would benefit from this experience for reasons beyond what we at the refuge can offer, such as fresh air, swimming in the sea, building sandcastles, adventure, exploring the environment, and in addition it would be an opportunity for the children to bond with their mothers and their siblings away from the refuge. That said, any contribution made to our funding is priceless to our service.

First Meeting
I met Sian at Oscar's Café in Old Trafford. She kindly bought us both a coffee.
We spoke about the project and Sian told me about their work at TDAS.
Sian then explained that when the refuge received the letter, they were concerned that I might be an ex-partner trying to make contact with one of the families. Only after doing some research online did they decide to trust the invitation.
